Pooja, have you ever changed course and it impacted your life in a way you were not expecting?

This happened to me when I switched careers.

I was working as a litigator for a top law firm in Seattle and was unsatisfied. For more than ten years, I worked in this career, but my eldest son was a toddler at the time and my job demanded more time away from my family than I wanted to give.

I needed a change, so I left the law firm.

I started working with a career counselor who inspired me to pursue a similar career path and became a career counselor for other professionals.

In this role as the owner of Legal Career Management, I helped hundreds of attorneys find the right professional niche according to their strengths and interests.

But, what I didn’t anticipate about this career change, was the way it would impact my parenting.

The more clients I worked with, the more I realized many had something in common. Often their parents influenced an unfortunate choice that led to dissatisfaction in their careers. Maybe their parents pressured them into the medical field, or maybe they were the first in their family to attend college and pursue higher education.

I continued to see this pattern with my clients and it made me realize just how much we, as parents, impact our children. All of these interactions we have with our children influence their choices and play a role in their future satisfaction and happiness.

In my new career, I was not only able to develop my own strengths and interests in a fulfilling way, but I also made this realization that would change the way I parent my children forever.

I took this lesson to heart with my own boys and made it a priority in my parenting. I let them make choices about their interests, activities, and education instead of letting my own ideals for their future get in the way of their exploration.

Now, I share everything I have learned about supporting and nurturing children in their dreams, with other parents like you.
